“The book by Grzegorz Smyk is a successful attempt to present the genesis of European administrative sciences. The author outlines the history of administrative science and administrative law in leading European countries, such as France and Germany, demonstrating exceptional knowledge of this subject matter.
(...) I consider the author's reflections on the study of administration and administrative law in Russia and Poland to be particularly valuable. G. Smyk is an undisputed expert on the issues presented here, and his research is full of insightful observations and conclusions. The author has presented the analysed institutions of administration and administrative law in a comprehensive manner, referring to them not only in the context of public law but also, to a relevant extent, in the context of private law.
As a result, both the content and the structure of the reviewed work deserve a high meritorious assessment. Reading it convinces us that the author has masterfully fulfilled his research goal of demonstrating the genesis and ideological sources of the main trends in European administrative sciences from their inception until the end of the 19th century”.
