Migration is not only a demographic, sociological or economic problem. It is a complex multidimensional issue within the member states of the European Union which is a source of complications in the processes of adaptation and acculturation, and contributes to the formation of barriers and growing social distance etc. On the one hand, migrants become fascinated with all that is new, attractive and unknown; on the other, they experience detachment, marginalisation and alienation. This leads to fear, anxiety and a felling of threat often resulting from the incomprehension of social situations, the rules of social life, cultural patterns and scripts. That is why I believe that this book expands the repertoire of publications in this area of studies. A also think that it raises some relevant issues, provides explanations and poses questions while as the same time encouraging in-depth analyses and reflections.
